Implications of Writing Optional Grade 12 Exams

For students in the 2004 Graduation Program, all Grade 12 exams are optional except for the Language Arts 12 and BC First Nations Studies 12 exams. Optional exams will be offered in sixteen Grade 12 courses (the same as the existing set of exams). STUDENTS, not their school, make the choice to write Optional exams. If students choose to write these exams, results will count for 40 percent of the final course mark.

Students who are registered for an optional exam and who sign in for the exam, regardless of whether they answer any of the questions, will be considered to have made an exam attempt. Once an attempt has been made the exam will count toward the final mark. STUDENTS CANNOT OPT TO TAKE THEIR SCHOOL MARK once they have attempted the exam. This attempt will count for 40 percent of the student’s final letter grade for the course.
